When The Day Is Done

Sweet Sophie,

I stayed beside the crib until you fell asleep tonight. I watched as you twisted the ends of your hair, making it stand on end. In the dim light, you found the corner of your blanket and rubbed it between two small fingers. Eyes, that at first would flutter shut only to pop open again, got heavier and heavier until you couldn't lift them again. You relaxed, your breathing grew slower, steadier and just when I was thinking of turning off the light, you waved, that sweet, little two handed wave and a smile flighted across your lips.

For now and forever sweet dreams, little Sophie.
